ABOUT THE BAND
It is what it is. Highway West is five guys who enjoy playing music together. Coming from different musical styles, influences, and levels of training, we seek to blend our skills to create an experience for the audience that is different from what most other bands would offer.
We play many different genres of music, from Classic Country to Classic Rock, Folk, Pop, Oldies, and Blues. And Funk. Maybe Disco too. Depends how we feel that night.
Oh, and we did some Reggae once. I think it was by accident, but we did it. So that counts, right?
You want to know how these guys came together? The confluence (a word you're required to know living within 100 miles of Pittsburgh) of musical talent was brought together early in the summer of 2007. Dan, Doug, and Brian had played together in various bands & incarnations for almost ten years (under about 54 different band names). They played such prestigious venues as Kevin & Patty's Driveway, Dan's Barn, and various up-scale campfires. Often it was just the three of them. But from time to time (and for different periods of time), they were joined by other musicians like Dick Bungo, Frank Battick, and the Smashing Frumkins (Ted & Jen). Nothing was ever formal about the group & time spent playing was literally time spent "playing". They played parties & get-togethers, but never sought opportunities to become well-known. It was about spending time with good friends who loved music.
Dan, looking for more chances to play & to serve, decided to join the Eldertones, a local Christian band made up of members from various Methodist churches in the area. That was where Dan met Drew and Martin. The Eldertones played various church, social, and private functions, playing a mixture of oldies, country, hymns, and worship songs. Excited about the talent he saw there & looking to bring both of his musical worlds together, Dan invited Drew and Martin to play with his other two friends. And so it was born....
Today, the band continues to grow in familiarity with each other, both musically and personally. Highway West is constantly evolving in one way or another. Here's to hoping that the evolution continues for a long time & that there will be many smiling faces along the way both in the crowd and on the stage.
See you on Five Points Road. About a mile off....
